Is Poverty In Your Future? - This One Change Could Make All The Difference

There is a crisis! It’s not evident yet but in the next couple of years you are going to hear more and more that you are going to be doing it tough as you get older. More and more people will struggle to have a reasonably comfortable retirement and you could be one of them.

You see governments around the world and here in Australia as well are giving you the heads up that the Welfare State is coming to an end and that the only people getting welfare will be those in the greatest need and that the welfare they receive will be cut back in real terms.

If you are relying on the government for your future financial needs you had better think again. The whole lot will be dropped in your lap to deal with. You need to ensure you are putting enough away so you don’t spend the last 30 or 40 years of your life in poverty.

The Global Financial Crisis really mucked things up for a lot of people. Their superannuation was annihilated, they lost faith in shares, the slow economic recovery brought about the lowest interest rates in many decades and they look like staying low for a very long time and this has resulted in a property boom that has made the yields on investment properties as bad as cash investments and bonds.

What’s left? Almost nothing - you are pretty much in a fix. The government is telling you that you need to save for your own future and you need to work longer before retiring and on top of that you can’t make any money investing or can you?

There’s still a way.

What Can I Do?

You need to consider shares again. Not the same old Banks and Telstra shares for the yield, they are pretty much overpriced, as everybody had the same idea years ago. You need to think a little outside the square without taking on extra risk. You need to consider growth rather than yield to reach your financial goals.

It seems every week we are hearing someone telling us to invest in international shares and that Australians are terribly underweight genuine growth shares in sectors that are almost non-existent on the ASX. They are Healthcare, Biotechnology and Technology - probably the most important industries for the next 20 years and we in Australia only have a mere handful of companies (all overpriced) that we can invest in.

Boom Opportunities

We need to think outside the square and look at international exposure for our future’s sake. These sectors are booming now, but they will probably continue to boom, as more and more people use mobile telecommunications more and more in their lives.

In addition, the ageing population will require more healthcare services and products from Pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, hospitals and aged care facilities around the world. These are booming industries and you probably don’t have any exposure to them.

Here's what some of our current clients have said about their experiences (unsolicited):

I must congratulate you on your fine newsletter. Over the past 4 years I have steadily invested only in US stocks which you have recommended, taking account of losses incurred in being stopped out, fees, dividends & brokerage my portfolio in A$ has increased by just over 49%. Over the past 12 months the portfolio has increased at an even greater rate of 89%.
